Alpha Gamma Delta:

by Kim Brown

At Syracuse University in 1904, Alpha Gamma Delta was founded as an international fraternity for women. Eleven ladies forged a friendship that promoted community service, self-improvement, and religious faith.

Since its meager beginnings, Alpha Gam has been enlarging its circle of sisterhood all over the world. One of its most recent extensions was to Lambuth last Fall. Theta Pi, the 173rd chapter of AGD, was chartered here in September, 1996. In its first year on campus, Alpha Gam became quite well known. AGD now sponsors a Sadie Hawkins dance in the Spring as well as Karaoke Nights and Trick-or-Treating to raise money for its philanthropy, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. This year, the ladies of AGD hosted a bake sale at an Eagle football game and raised an additional $200 for JDF.

Alpha Gams also hold a hayride, Christmas party, and Spring Formal to encourage their great bond of sisterhood. This year, Alpha Gamma Delta hopes to increase in number as well as campus visibility. The ladies have worked extra hard to incorporate their sisterhood into all aspects of Lambuth life. Keep your eyes peeled, LU -- the Squirrels are here to stay!

Karen Carpenter, Allison Hollin, and Jenny Vaughn of Alpha Gamma Delta, dance organizers, happily help to bring the buck in, awaiting their turn to join the festivities. Webdesigner's note: Allison Hollin is not a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, but of Phi Mu. It was misreported in the Lantern
